Short-acting analgesia in surgical procedures. Adjunct in general anaesth maintenance. In combination w/ neuroleptic agent in neuroleptanalgesia technique. Resp depressant/analgesic in patients requiring prolonged assisted ventilation. Anaesth induction.
Adult & childn 12-17 yrNeurolept analgesia Initially 50-100 mcg slow IV inj in combination w/ neuroleptic, may be given 2nd dose of 50-100 mcg 30-45 min after initial dose. Neuroleptic anaesth Initially 200-600 mcg slow IV inj in combination w/ neuroleptic. Maintenance: Additional 50-100 mcg every 30-45 min. Premed anaesth 50-100 mcg IM 30-60 min pre-op. Anaesth induction Initially 70-600 mcg. Anaesth maintenance Additional 25-100 mcg inj subsequently. Pain management in ICU Initially 50-100 mcg IV followed by repeated inj up to total: 25-125 mcg hrly. Childn 2-11 yrSpontaneous respiration & assisted ventilation Initially 1-2 mcg/kg. Supplemental dose: 1-1.25 mcg/kg.
Not to be administered as fast bolus inj. History of opioid abuse. Uncompensated hypothyreosis, lung diseases especially w/ reduced vital capacity, alcohol abuse; adrenal insufficiency, prostatic hypertrophy, porphyria, bradyarrhythmia; inflammatory or obstructive intestinal diseases; hypovolaemia, decompensated heart failure. Muscle rigidity leading to resp depression. Intra-op diagnostic procedure in bile duct surgery; pain management of intensive care patients. Combination w/ nonvagolytic muscle relaxants; droperidol. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic & renal impairment. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Neonates. Elderly & weak patients.
